The Russell catchment’s coastline provides sanctuary for Great-Billed Heron, a wading bird found along stunningly beautiful riverbanks and lagoons of the Russell River and its tributaries. Most often, we only catch a glimpse as this very reclusive bird takes flight upon hearing our arrival. Sometimes though, we’re lucky enough to see it perched above the water on an overhanging tree.
